How to follow a skin care regimen based on your age?

Birth to Teens:  Skin is highly sensitive. The oil glands are not matured; thus, skin tends to feel dry. It is important to use a suitable cleanser and hydrate the skin regularly.

Teens to late twenties: With puberty comes the oil surge, resulting in acne and blemishes. It is critical to use non-comedogenic and oil free products. Consult a dermatologist to treat your acne rather than taking matters in your own hand. Hormones also stimulate melanin, hence skin tends to look tanned and uneven. Sun protection is extremely crucial.

Thirties: Thirties is the beginning of early signs of ageing. Adding products with Bakuchiol or Retinol helps stimulate collagen, thus delay early signs of ageing. Sun protection helps control photoaging. Vitamin C and Vitamin B3 help repair and rejuvenate.

Forties and fifties: the focus now is on slowing the effects of Aging. Along with Retinols, addition of peptides and ceramides aids in firming the skin. Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant that helps repair the damage. Sunscreen is always an important product of skin care.

Fifties: After fifties skin looses natural moisture and tends to get dehydrated, Along with continuing the regimen followed in forties and fifties, pay extra attention to hydrating your skin.

What is my skin type?

Normal skin type – feels neither dry nor oily, has good lustre

Dry skin type – feels stretchy, coarse, looks powdery, lustreless

Oily skin type – feels sticky, looks greasy. Prone for acne.

Combination skin – has oily T zone, normal to dry lateral face. Prone for acne.

Skin type is not forever. It is a complex issue. Your skin adapts to weather, environment, hormones, age, products used, all these factors to your skin type. Hence, you need to be skin smart and switch products to suit your skin.
