What is the significance of sunscreen?

Sun protection is the most critical part of skin care. Use appropriate sun care product to suit your skin, apply as dots and spread gently. Sunscreen has to be used as the last step in your layering regimen. You can use make- up on top of sunscreen after about 30 minutes. Reapply sunscreen evry 4 hours. To make it easy, apply once in morning around 9.00 AM ad repeat around lunch time, 1.00 PM. Sunscreen needs to be used all year round irrespective of the season.

1. It protects the skin from UV damage – UV rays harm the cellular DNA thus impact the cell metabolism and repair

2. It prevents premature aging – UV rays enhance photo aging which is characterised by thick leathery appearance and uneven discolouration. UV exposure increases the breakdown of collagen, thereby promoting fine lines and wrinkles. Using a sunscreen on daily basis reduces photoaging.

3. It helps maintain an even skin tone – A regular application of appropriate sunscreen as prescribed (every 3-4 hours) helps prevent patchy pigmentation and slows the appearance of age

4. It helps lower the risk of skin cancer
